Mike Daubenberger, Senior Structural Engineer, PE, Owner, President

Michael Daubenberger founded MD Structural Engineering, Inc. in 2012.  He began his career in structural engineering in 2004.  Michael’s work includes the design of seismic and wind force resisting systems for new buildings and for retrofit of existing buildings, gravity load resisting system design, retaining wall systems, and cladding systems.  His diverse project history has allowed him to work with a wide variety of structural materials including: wood/timber, masonry, concrete, steel, aluminum, fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP), and MSE Wall materials.  In his personal life, Mike has a passion for biking, spending time with his family, fishing, spear fishing, cooking, sailing and traveling.  He spent a year sailing through the Bahamas in 2011-12.


Britt Killian, Senior Structural Engineer, PE, Partner, Vice President

Britt Killian is a licensed Structural engineer in Oregon and Washington.  Prior to starting his career in engineering, Britt was co-owner of a small residential construction company which has allowed him to draw on past experiences to overcome design challenges on each new project. For the past 10 years his work has been focused solely in the s field of structural engineering.  Over the course of his career, he has been involved in the design of a variety of projects ranging from retaining wall systems to light industrial to complex residential.  His projects have allowed him to become proficient in structural design using, concrete, steel, wood/timber, SCIP (structural concrete insulated panels) and masonry. 


Zak Hoyt, EIT

Zak began working at MD Structural, Inc. June of 2016.  His structural design experience includes residential/commercial buildings, retaining walls and foundations, signs, pedestrian bridges, and storefront/curtainwall systems.  Throughout his career he has designed with a variety of materials including wood/timber, concrete, steel, and aluminum.  Prior to working at MD Structural, Zak worked as a research assistant at the infraStructure and Applied Research (iSTAR) laboratory at Portland State University.  While at iSTAR he conducted research on seismically induced ground and building accelerations resulting from a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake. In his free time Zak enjoys getting outside to ski and backpack, playing basketball, exploring Portland’s food and beer scene, and cheering on the Trail Blazers.


Josh Amundson, EIT

Josh’s career began in the residential construction field. He spent 18 years as a self-employed general contractor. His experience reinforces the structural designs he creates with a strong work ethic, field knowledge of buildable designs, and great communication with clients. Josh has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structures, is a registered engineer in training in the state of Oregon, and is currently working towards his PE license. His design experience includes work with: concrete, steel, wood, and aluminum.


Zack Middleton, Engineer, PE

Zack is a licensed Professional Engineer in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, Texas, Minnesota, Utah, Arizona, New York, Georgia, Florida and Colorado.  Prior to joining MD structural, Zack worked in depth with the semiconductor industry, specializing in structural dynamics, design build and heavy commercial componentry.  His projects have allowed him to become proficient in structural design and vibrational analysis using, concrete, steel, wood/timber, aluminum and masonry.  Currently he is attending Portland State University part-time to complete his Masters in structural engineering.  In his spare time Zack is an avid sportsman, golfer, pursuer of all snow sports and roots heavily for his alma mater: The University of Georgia, as well as the Portland Timbers.


Steven Sundborg, Draftsman

Steven earned his certification in drafting at Yakima Valley Community College.  He started his career at MD Structural Engineering, Inc. in 2015 with a willingness to learn and a positive attitude.  He has brought an eye for detail in his drafting projects.  In his spare time, Steven enjoys family, friends, fishing, sports and Netflix.
